About Us
We are Mick & Sarah Lewis, owners and Landlord / Landlady of The Red Lion Inn, who took over in June 2008. Mick, originally from Essex and Sarah originally from Kent, we left behind city jobs as a Scaffolding Manager and a Corporate Law firm worker following the adoption of our beautiful Daughter Safia from China, looking for a more family orientated way of life and to be part of a rural village community, which we have truly found.
We have plunged our heart & soul into the Red Lion and have made many improvements and adjustments since being here. We really think the Red Lion is a bit of a "one off" and many visitors here say it's like stepping back in time coming here, when they find a "Proper Traditional Pub". In its idyllic setting with quiet surroundings and beautiful views whether sun or snow, we have open fires at each end of our small pub, a really cosy dining area and plenty of seating and parking outside for the summer months. We are very happy to accept children & dogs and even horses are a common sight here at any time.

We undertake all the running of the pub ourselves and there is no job here that we don't do ourselves. Mick is very particular over his ales and keeps them in tip top order, for which we have earned a very good reputation. Often though, we need to call upon friends to help and our good friend and local Farmer "Whizz" is a common find behind our bar together with close friend and all round helper Lorraine. We have Vanessa & Alison who are very competent Kitchen assistants who assist Sarah in the kitchen at busy times & between us we undertake all the cooking, waitressing and washing up ourselves!!
Our daughter and our dog "Jerry Lee" are often bobbing about and love all the visitors coming to play with them, many people liken our pub to being a "home from home" environment which we like to think it is. We have a good local trade and most weeks often have three generations of the same family drinking and enjoying time together here, something you would struggle to find anywhere else, with many of our older locals taking pleasure in advising our tourists and visitors alike of the best places to visit, the history of the village & local properties and generally welcoming them all to Waterfall. Everyone from age 1 to 81 seems to enjoy themselves here and all mix happily together.
We have both Men's and Ladies' Darts Teams and Dominoes Teams playing here weekly and have regular entertainment, usually our most frequent guitarist "Ray Guitar Pickin" and other ad-hoc bands. With plenty of walks right on the doorstep and horses, cows & sheep in the fields close to the pub there is always lots to see & do. We even have a resident barn owl & her young that have been a regular sight here over the past three years in the opposite field & are often seen hunting at dusk. With our close proximity to the towns of Leek & Ashbourne and of course to Alton Towers we feel that whether you are just relaxing or rushing around with children our pub is the perfect stop off for food and fine ales and a great environment for all the family.
